The homes in the background are at No. 32 and 34 Carroll Street. The
large orinate home to the right was known as the Hill house located on
the corner of Univeristy St. and Carroll. This home was built by the
H.G. Hill Family which went on to build a large chain of Grocery stores
in Nashville. The building across University from this home was one of
the first H.G. Hill grocery stores which later became Hopper's around
1942 then Thruman's Grocery around 1952. The people in the photo
believed to be Bill Hentz (L) and Walter Culbertson (R) around
1944-45 --Photo contributed by Mark Roberson.
